So, the shoot is officially booked—now the big question: what do we wear?!

I’m incredibly passionate about fashion, and yes, what you choose to wear can have a huge impact on how your photos turn out. That said, take this advice with a grain of salt—at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you feel confident and comfortable in what you’re wearing.

What will always photograph well?

Clothing with movement is key. Flowy pieces like long dresses, skirts, or anything that moves beautifully in the wind tend to photograph best. If it’s cooler out, layering is your friend—think leather jackets, cozy knit sweaters, or even a faux fur coat. When it comes to colour, consider the natural tones of our shooting location and the season. Earthy, neutral shades photograph beautifully, such as beige, blue denim, grey, khaki, olive green, mocha, ivory, black, and white.

What are definite no’s?

Avoid bright primary colours like red, blue, green, yellow, or purple. The goal is to complement the environment, not compete with it—bold colours can be distracting in photos. Also, skip large logos and baseball caps. Shoe choice should match the setting: for lakes, fields, or nature, bare feet, sandals, or boots work well; for city shoots, heels can be a great option if they complement your outfit. Lastly, try to avoid anything too tight or restrictive—you’ll want to move freely and feel comfortable throughout the shoot.

HOW DO WE COORDINATE?

Style your outfits so the colours work well together without being an exact match. For instance, if your partner is wearing khaki pants, opt for denim, a skirt, or a dress to complement the look. Neutral tones are always a good option—just be sure each person wears different colours on their top and bottom so everyone stands out while still looking coordinated.

TEXTURES AND ACCESSORIES

Incorporate a mix of textures like denim, silk, lace, knits, or fringe. The added layers and details create more depth, making your photos visually richer and more engaging.

BEING YOU

If the examples I’ve shared don’t feel like the right fit for you, that’s totally fine. I’m here to capture you as you are—and that includes your personality—so let it come through in your outfit choices. Feel free to bring multiple options to the shoot, and I’ll gladly help you select pieces and put together looks that feel true to you.
